The word “SDGs”
最近UXデザイン界隈でSDGsという言葉をよく聞くようになってきました。
These days, sometimes I hear “SDGs” in the community of UX designers.
I hear that more than before.
持続的開発目標（Sustainable Development Goals）というやつです。「様々な社会課題を解決してより良い世界を作ろう」というようなものと私は解釈してます。
SDGs is “Sustainable Development Goals”. I understood it as “Resolving various social issues and making the world better”.
（デザイナー向けにSDGsをテーマにした勉強会もあるけど残念ながら予定あわず、まだ参加できていません。）
（There have been some meetup events themed SDGs for designers. I want to participate those but I haven’t yet, unfortunately, because of other errands.）

私は2月にCIIDのWinter School（1週間のワークショップ）に参加する予定なのですが、そちらもテーマがSDGsです。
I will participate in the CIID Winter School (1-week workshop) next February, and the subject of the school is also SDGs.
なので、SDGsについて詳しく知りたいのですが、コンセプトが壮大すぎて何から始めたらいいかわからないです。
So I feel like learning the SDGs deeply… but the concept of that is too magnificent to start learning it easily.
まずは、自分の業種に近いところのSDGs貢献事例を収集するところから初めてみました。それらを紹介したいと思います。

Then, I’m trying to collect examples of the practices of SDGs, particularly similar to my specialty.
Today, let me introduce some of those examples.
(My specialty field is USER INTERFACE DESIGN for Web and Apps)
Webを検索してもUXデザインの観点からSDGsを論じるようなサイトがあまり見つからなかったのですが、たまたま持ってた雑誌にいくつか参考になる事例があったので、そこからいくつか抜粋してお話したいと思います。
Though I couldn’t find enough information by Googling, I found some reference examples in a magazine I got coincidently in the past.
I excerpt some examples from the magazine.

Example1: “codecheck”
何らかの商品を購入する際に、それが「正しい製品であるか」をチェックできるアプリです。主に食品に対して、様々な面からのチェックが行えるようです。
When you buy some products, you can check whether it is ETHICAL or not, by using this App.
Apparently, it is mainly used for food but you can also check it from various aspects.
- オーガニックであるか
Organic or not ? - フェアトレードで生産されているか
Fare trading or not ? - 原料が自然破壊につながっていないか
Eco-friendly or not ?
成分や栄養価などを、WWFやグリーンピースの情報をベースに表示してくれます。
スマートフォンのカメラを使った操作フローや情報の見せ方など、UIデザイナーが直接的にSDGsに貢献できるわかりやすい例かと思われます。
It’s indicating the component, the nutritional values and so on, based on the database of WWF and Greenpeace.
There are some factors of UI Designing in this App. Some of which are device operation flow using the smartphone’s camera, method of describing data, etc.
This is an obvious example of describing that UI Designer can contribute to SDGs directly.
Example2: “REKO-ring”

SNSを活用した、食品の地産地消システムです。
使用者はFacebookグループに登録して、コメント欄を使って食品を売買します。
This is an example of “Local production for local consumption” using SNS.
Users register on the Facebook group and buy and sell food products using the comment forms.
農家が商品情報を投稿し、消費者はコメント欄から購入を申し入れるそうです。
受け渡しの日時と場所はあらかじめ設定されていて、電子決済を使用したスムーズな売買が行われます。
Farmers post the information of products then, consumers order by filling out the comment form.
The date and place of delivery is determined in advance. Transactions are made seamlessly using electronic payments.
フードロスを防ぐことと地域活性化につながっているようです。パッケージや配送コストも減らせて、環境負荷も低く抑えられます。
It results in good economic benefits for the local area and prevents food loss.
In addition, they can reduce the cost of packaging and shipping. It is also eco-friendly.
生鮮食品を扱う場合は情報の即時生がとても大事なので、インターネット技術がとても有効ですね。SNSと電子決済を使って、売り手と買い手の直接的な受け渡しをスムーズに進めるために、UIならびに、そのバックグラウンドとなるUXの設計がとても重要な要素となっている事例です。
Internet technology is very effective for those services because immediate information is very important in dealing with fresh foods.
In this case, we can see that designing UI and UX is an essential factor for smooth trade using SNS and electronic payment.
